Not born a
Princess like normal royalty or like Princess Ozma. Mombi was in fact a
witch, not a powerful Sorceress like Glinda. Now Mombi was not necessarily
EVIL, only and outcast in her land.
When the Wizard came to Oz they made him a ruler, and he
in secret took the baby princess Ozma (the
rightful ruler) to be raised by Mombi. Ozma then grew up being Mombi's
slave. But years later, after the Wizard left Oz in his Balloon, the
Nome king confronted Mombi about Ozma. He told Mombi if she kept Ozma a
secret from all of Oz he would give her the heads of thirty beautiful
maidens in the Emerald City and make her a princess.
So Mombi
enchanted her slave Ozma into the mirror, never to be seen again (or so she
thought). And as the Nome King conquered the Emerald City he gave unto her
his prisoners of wheelers to serve as her army. She was now his ally at the
Emerald City and she called herself from then forth "Princess Mombi". |
