When Ozma was young she was a slave to the evil witch Mombi. Mombi was very mean to
Ozma so she came up with a plan to scare her out of her wits. So she cut
down some tree limbs and tied them together with some twine rope. Then arranged
them to make a jointed, man-like figure. She covered him with some old cloths
that she found in a trunk. She then took a pumpkin, for his head, and carved a
smiling face into it and placed it upon the pointed stick where the neck was.
She then laid Jack down where Mombi would meet this new
man face to face. And when Mombi saw the creature
it did indeed startle her but in her fear she was going
to destroy the lifeless creature.
But
luckily for Jack Mombi had just purchased some “powder
of life” from a magician and wanted to see if it really
worked, so she used the pumpkinhead creature to
test it out. She sprinkled the powder all over him
and said the magic words “Weaugh..
Teaugh.. Peaugh...
” and the
creature then instantly came to life!
Mombi used her new creature as a slave. When he met Ozma he asked where he
came from. She replied “I made you” so he figured she must be his mom, and
called her that from then on. Ozma showed Jack became very close friends. But
when Mombi collaborated with Nome King, the built an Army of Wheelers and
concord the Emerald City. Then Mombi, Ozma and Jack all moved into the Palace
(or what was left of it). Once there Mombi enchanted Ozma into the mirror in
exchange for 30 beautiful heads.
From then on Jack spent his days looking for his Mother,
for to him she vanished. And as he looked all over
he asked Mombi over and over, where is my Mom? And
Mombi had a terrible Temper and this eventually made
Mombi furious. So she threw him in a corner of
her tower, disassembling his arm and leg and then told
him she was going to make a pie out of him.
She was
wearing head Twenty Two at the time and since then had
not put it back on. So she completely forgot all
about jack. Since jack was a Pumpkinhead and did
not consist of any human parts he did not need to eat,
sleep or drink anything. So he used that time to
think about his life. He thought about what it
would be like to see his mom again. He also
thought about the wonders of the world and how it would
feel to explore them all. He also feared that he
would spoil up their in the tower and never get to see
the world or his mom again. Until one day when a
strange girl got thrown into the tower with her pet
chicken. Jack was confused but excited. He
thought Ozma had returned to rescue him. But it
was not his Mom, it was Dorothy Gale, and here his
adventure begins on her Return to Oz… |
