Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disney theme park.

Disney Storybook Land rides  go through films from Disney's past full of  miniatures of the characters and landscapes.  Disneyland in California and Disneyland Paris both  have the storybook land rides.  But the The Disneyland Paris version is the only one to have a model of the Emerald city  from Return to Oz.

Unlike the original in California, a guide does not accompany the riders. The boats here are guided by an underwater wire rather than being propelled by an on-board motor. Passengers enter their boats via a slowly revolving platform.

The Cave of Wonders from "Aladdin" midway through the voyage replaces the Disneyland version's Monstro cave. The boats also float past these settings, accompanied by music from the respective film and minimal dialogue:

  • The dwarfs' mine from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • The gingerbread house of Hansel and Gretel
  • Prince Eric's seaside castle from The Little Mermaid
  • The Greek temple from Fantasia
  • Snow-covered landscapes from Peter and the Wolf
  • Pinocchio's cobblestone village with Geppetto's wood shop.
  • The "Night on Bald Mountain" scene from Fantasia
  • A scene from The Sword in the Stone
  • The Belle's village and the Beast's castle from Beauty and the Beast
  • The Emerald City from Return to Oz

The Disneyland Paris version, named Le Pays des Contes de Fées, opened in the spring of 1994.

The Emerald City is the last miniature you see as the 5 minute boat ride comes to an end.  There are a few characters present in the Emerald City;  Dorothy, Tin Woodman, Lion, and Scarecrow.  The all are standing outside the gates to the city.  The theme music played in the background was not from the David Shire score.  But rather the 1 minute score written for the electrical parade.
